Kathryn Williams & Withered Hand

Withered Hand is the solo project of Edinburgh-based indie folk-pop artist Dan Willson, known for his incisive songwriting and lo-fi, acoustic sound. An established figure in the Scottish music scene, Dan emerged from the Fence Collective to release three acclaimed LPs, including the SAY Award long-listed 'New Gods' in 2014. A renowned 'Songwriter's Songwriter', Mercury Prize-nominated Kathryn Williams has eighteen albums to her name and has explored several collaborative projects with artists, writers and poets. Dan and Kathryn met in 2019 at the Edinburgh Festival and collaborated on the album 'Willson Williams,' recorded after their friendship deepened during the pandemic.

The collaborative LP 'Willson Williams' from Dan Willson (Withered Hand) and Kathryn Williams showcases the meeting of two seasoned singer-songwriters blending inventive folk-rock instrumentation with reflective, sincere lyrics. Their poetic confessionals are delivered wrapped in nostalgic harmonies and atmospheric melodies, exploring and celebrating life's joys and griefs. Funded by Creative Scotland, 'Willson Williams" features an array of Scottish talent, including Louis Abbott, Graeme Smillie, Kris Drever, Chris 'Beans' Geddes, Pete Harvey, and Kenny 'King Creosote' Anderson. Produced by Rod Jones (Idlewild) at Post Electric Studio in Leith, the record documents a friendship and captures the duo's powerful shared creative vision.
